What’s New with Vembu BDR Suite V4.0

Vembu has released their new edition BDR Essentials and BDR Suite v3.9.1 few months back with new enhancements and features. Vembu is releasing their new BDR Suite Version 4.0 with many enhancements and new features, this version will be available soon.

In this Post , I am sharing some updates of Vembu BDR Suite Version 4.0 new features and Enhancements introducing by Vembu team.

What is New with Vembu BDR Suite V 4.0

New Features 

  • Hyper-V cluster backup: With BDR suite 4.0 you can backup virtual machines inside a Hyper-V Cluster , in case if one of your Host is down and  the VM has moved to another, the incremental backup will continue to happen without any interruption.
  • Shared VHDx backup: Vembu supports backup of the shared VHDx of Hyper-V , Shred VHDx means , VHDx file can be sitting on any  SAN  or SMB share which is accessible by multiple machines .
  • CheckSum based incrementals: Vembu was using Change Block Tracking (CBT) for incremental backups. With new version incase of any CBT failure happens , Vembu uses the CheckSum for the incremental to happen without any interruption and this will give availability of your data .
  • Credential Manager:  Vembu is introducing the feature called  credential manger  which will allow you to manage manage the credentials of the host and the VMs running in it . And with help of this you don’t need to enter credentials every time and this is really good solution in Logon user account for the VembuIntegrationService.

Enhancements

  • Where it was left off for Vembu ImageBackup: This is a great enhancement made by Vembu , If an Image backup job gets interrupted due to network failure, it will resume from where it was left off. This feature help to reduce the backup window compare to normally we do retry for a failed backup
  • Improved proxy functionality: As we know Vembu uses proxy function from Backup server to take backup and with new version of Vembu are are  some improvements to the Proxy function . Proxy agent will only listen to the process the request sent by the BDR Server to trigger the backup .
  • Virtual hardware selection: With this enhancement you can customize the specification of the Virtual Hardware of the VM during the live recovery  . This will allow you to modify the CPU socket and core, memory, hard disk provision type, and network adapter etc.
  • Improved Hyper-V live recovery: With new  version Vembu  enhanced their Hyper-V recovery feature ,While performing a recovery a separate agent is pushed to the target machine for performing the full VM recovery.
  • Improved Application aware for Hyper-V Backups: One the enhancement I really  liked with Hyper-V backup  , with BDR 4.0 you can individually select the VMs and enable Application Aware processing from all Virtual Mahcines listed in the Hyper-V host.
  • Abort Offsite Replication: Vembu enhanced their replication feature option with new version  , now you can abort the replication job from the Vembu OffsiteDR server.
  • ODR Activation: Also now you can perform activation  or deactivation of  a particular BDR server connected to an OffsiteDR server on your Vembu BDR envirionment.
  • Quick VM Recovery report: Addition to Vembu Quick VM recovery now you can  generate  report for of the recovery process with details . This report contain details  like VM Name, Recovery point, Start and End time, target hypervisor and the status of the recovery.
  • API’s to fetch storage details: With BDR 4.0 Vembu has added new set of APIs  which is mainly designed for generating detailed report on storage utilization for the environment configured on Vembu Backup and it contains the size of the VM, storage space utilized by a backup job, compression rate etc.
  • VM disk inclusion: VM disk inclusion is another enhancement with Vembu BDR version 4.0 , with support this feature you can perform incremental backup of existing VM with newly added disk  .Earlier we have option to take backup of newly added disk to VM only with next additional full backup  not with incremental  and now with this enhancement newly added disk will be will be backed up along with the successive incremental.
